The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) said it will collaborate with Anambra State Government to develop and equip the Nnewi Automotive Industrial Park with state-of-art technologies.
The Director-General of NADDC, Mr.Jelani Aliyu, made the disclosure during his curtsey visit to Governor Willie Maduabuchukwu Obiano at the States’ government house in Awka, the State capital.
Aliyu noted that, if completed, the proposed project would serve as a centralized manufacturing hub for the production of automotive components and vehicles.
Highlighting economic benefits of the Park, Aliyu said, “the Park will provide thousands of direct and multiplier effect jobs, and enable the transfer of relevant technical skills and technology.
“It will be a world class hub of advanced technology which will supply world standard components to feed both the automotive service and repair market, and local assembly operations,” he said.
According to him, the park will also be linked to global technology partners, beginning to prepare its relevant invested stakeholders with capabilities that would allow them to support the three upcoming global automotive mega-trends which include Electric Vehicles, Vehicle Autonomy and Ride Sharing.
Earlier in his address, Governor Obiano assured NADDC of his support towards actualisation of project, promising land allocation for the project.
Mr. Aliyu also visited the Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company in Nnewi, marking his first tour of automotive industry in the country. Playing host to the NADDC Director-General, Mr. Innocent Chukwuma, Chairman of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company, said Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company is the first indigenous company in Nigeria to produce vehicles and it is ready to export 400 of its vehicles to Mali.
Expressing his satisfaction over the pace at which Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company competes with others across the globe, Aliyu said, “I am very happy and excited to be at Innoson and to see the wonderful work being done.
“This is something that all Nigerians should be proud of, to see an indigenous automobile manufacturer producing cars right in Nnewi, making a significant contribution to the local and national economies, and to the development of the nation’s automotive sector,” Aliyu said.
