Nigerians paid more for diesel, kerosene and gas in May compared to April, data on the website of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has shown.
According to the statistics office, the average price per litre paid by consumers for kerosene increased month on month rose by 0.65 per cent while it decreased year on year by -7.58 per cent with consumers paying N280.29 in May 2018 from N278.59 in April 2018.
It showed that states with the highest average price per litre of kerosene were Abuja N327.50, Yobe N313.33 and Cross River N310.19 while states such as Borno, Abia and Kogi purchased it has low has N233.33, N235.53 and N251.04 respectively.
Similarly, the average price per gallon paid by consumers for national household kerosene increased by 0.80 per cent month on month and decreased by -5.12 per cent year on year to N983.67 in May 2018 from N975.82 in April 2018.
Jigawa, Yobe, Adamawa had the highest average prices with N1143.33, N1130 and N10.88.89 respectively while it was purchased for as low as N907.66 in Oyo, N884.62 in Delta and N834.09 in Rivers in May 2018.
For automotive gas oil (diesel) the statistics indicated that there was an increase of 0.65 per cent month on month and 4.91 percent when compared to last year. It indicated that it was purchased for N204.35 in April and N205.67 in May 2018.
It further showed that consumers in Taraba, Kebbi and Gombe bought diesel for has high as N253.33, N224.50 and N227.50 respectively while consumers in Nasarawa, Abuja and Adamawa were able to purchase the commodity for as low as N167.27, N186.67 and N183 respectively.
For liquefied petroleum gas (cooking gas) the statistics indicated an increase of 0.68 percent month on month from N2058.19 in April to N2072.24 in May 2018 for refilling of a 5kg cylinder though there was a decrease year on year by -15.30 per cent.
It stated Bauchi and Gombe where it is refilled for N2500, and Borno where it is refilled for N2428 as the states with the highest average price for refilling a 5kg cylinder while Kaduna, Ebonyi and Ekiti were the stars with the lowest average prices where it is refilled for as low has N1687.50, N1690 and N1795 respectively.
Similarly, the average price for the refiling of a 12.5kg cylinder of liquefied petroleum gas (cooking gas) increased by 0.70 percent month on month from N4268.95 in April to N4298.72 in May 2018 and decrease by 14.30 percent year on year.
Benue (N5150), Kaduna (N4935), Rivers (N4687.50) had the highest average prices while Oyo, Ogun and Lagos were it was purchased for N3940.38, N3866.67 and N3683.33 respectively were the states with the lowest average price.
Meanwhile, the price of premium motor spirit (PMS) otherwise known as petrol which is the most purchased petroleum product decreased by -0.8 percent month on month from N151.4 in April to N150.2 in May 2018.
Although the price of petrol remains at N145 per litre the statistics showed that insurgency prone states like Borno and Benue purchased it for as high as N166.08 and N160.31 respectively consumers in Akwa Ibom state purchased it for as high as N159.44 while it was sold for as low as N144.82, N144.87 and N144.93 in Katsina, Kano and Bauchi states respectively.
