OGFZA seeks collaboration with host communities

In his effort to foster and retain mutual relationship, growth and sustainable development, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority (OGFZA), Sen. Tijjani Yahaya Kaura (MFR) has embarked on a mission to solicit collaboration with host communities in a bid to retain investors operating in the zones as well as woo more investors into the zones. To achieve this, the MD/CEO and his management team went on familiarization visits to host communities.

In Ogu community, they were received by HRM , King Nicolas Nimenibo (Amanyanabo Of Ogu), as represented by Chief Adokiye Ochemiebia Chuku,  Chairman Ogu Divisional Council of Chiefs, including representatives Of Ogu Youths  Congress and that of  Community Development Committee (CDC) at the Chiefs’ Council Secretariat on Saturday 3rd June 2023.

Addressing the King and members of his council, Sen. Kaura stated that his purpose of visit is to accord respect and recognition to the highly regarded traditional institution in Ogu community, condole them on the demise of the late king as well as solicit the support of the community to foster peace and ensure safety and security of business enterprises operating within the community.

He disclosed that he took over leadership from his predecessor, Umana Okon Umana and assured them of consolidating the precepts and antecedents of his predecessor.

Speaking at the meeting, he explained the concept of the Free Zone to the council, stating that a Free Zone is as an initiative of Federal Government which relaxes taxation for foreign and domestic investors. He assured them that the Authority would work with the community to thrive adding that the community which is strategic in economic and commercial activities should enjoy benefits of investments in the community. 
He eulogized the community for the peaceful co-existence and secured environment enjoyed in Ogu community having learnt that it is the most peaceful community in the area.

While addressing some misconceptions about the Oil and Gas Free Zones, he stated that the name “Oil and Gas” does not mean the Authority deals directly with Oil and Gas but is rather a regulatory body that regulates companies operating in oil and gas sector. 
He revealed that revenue has decreased as a result of investors relocating to other Zones due to insecurity and lack of activities. 
Thus urging the paramount ruler to encourage the youths to continually remain peaceful as Ogu is known to be one the most peaceful communities in Rivers State.

He then assured the community of his commitment to support, empower and develop the community being one of the host communities in the flagship Oil and Gas Free Zone located in Onne, Rivers State.

He appreciated the Ogu community in their continuous support towards the Authority and also solicited their cooperation cooperation in the area of peace and security.

The King’s representative, Chief Adokiye Chuku in his response to the OGFZA boss and entourage, emphasized that Ogu community is peaceful and open to investment because it brings development and growth to the community. 

He disclosed that for over twenty years, there has not been violence in the community as opposed to the previous years because they have adopted and employed peaceful and cordial relationship with investors. He assured the management of the Authority of his support to add value to business establishments in the community.
