Yusuf Haliru Binji, born on March 23, 1968, is the Managing Director of BUA Cement, Nigeria’s second largest cement company and the fifth most capitalised on the Nigerian Exchange. Binji’s academic credentials include a B. Eng. in Chemical Engineering from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1990) and an M. Sc. in Chemical Process Engineering with Distinction from the University College, University of London (1993).
Binji’s professional recognitions are extensive. He became a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers in 2013, the Solar Energy Society of Nigeria in 2012, and the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers in 2016. He is also an Associate Member of the Institution of Chemical Engineers, UK (2000), and a Registered Engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).
He has pursued various executive management courses at top institutions, including Harvard Business School, the Institute for Management Development (IMD) in Switzerland, and INSEAD in France.
With a career spanning more than three decades in the manufacturing sector, Binji has been pivotal in the expansion of BUA Group’s cement operations in Nigeria. He spearheaded the construction of six new production lines in the past eight years, increasing BUA Cement’s installed capacity to 17 million tons per annum. His contributions have been significant in the development of Nigeria’s cement industry, including the establishment of the 6-million metric ton per annum Obu Cement Company and the Kalambaina cement plant in Sokoto, along with various expansions at the Cement Company of Northern Nigeria.
Yusuf Haliru Binji was appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive of BUA Cement in December 2019.
