NEPC CEO Visits Jigawa State to Boost Non-Oil Export Sector


Mrs. Nonye Ayeni, the Executive Director/CEO of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), paid a visit to the Executive Governor of Jigawa State, Mr. Umar Namadi, in Dutse on March 26, 2024. The meeting marked a significant step towards revitalizing the non-oil export sector for sustainable growth.

During her visit, Mrs. Ayeni outlined NEPC’s ambitious plans to rejuvenate the non-oil export sector, emphasizing the Council’s dedication to partnering with Jigawa State. She commended Governor Namadi for his remarkable initiatives and accomplishments since assuming office, highlighting the Governor’s proactive approach to economic development.

Mrs. Ayeni proposed the establishment of processing centers for key agricultural commodities such as sesame seed, gum Arabic, and hibiscus. She underscored the importance of enhancing production capacity and adding value to these commodities to secure better prices in international markets. Furthermore, she stressed the critical need for Nigerian products to meet international standards to prevent rejection abroad.

Governor Namadi responded positively to Mrs. Ayeni’s proposals, praising her efforts and assuring full support from the State Government. He highlighted Jigawa State’s significant contributions to Nigeria’s non-oil export trade and mentioned ongoing collaborations with the private sector to ensure the quality of export products.

The meeting was attended by dignitaries from both NEPC and the Jigawa State Government, signifying a collaborative effort to boost the non-oil export sector and drive economic growth in the region.
