The Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority (OGFZA) has granted approval for the establishment of a power plant within the Liberty Oil and Gas Free Zone in Akwa Ibom state. This significant development was announced following an investment meeting held on July 31, 2024, in Abuja. The meeting was attended by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of OGFZA, Bamanga Usman Jada, alongside a team from 3W Alliance Limited in partnership with China Power, and the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Hon. Ekeprikpe Ekpo.
According to a release issued by OGFZA’s,
DGM/Head Corporate Communications, Golda Opuine Ukomadu, Mnipr, Jada emphasized the multifaceted benefits of the project, stating, “This project will expand our national grid, improve electricity supply to our investors and to the state as well. It will also increase revenue generation for the state and the federal government and provide employment for the teeming youths.” He further highlighted the project’s focus on utilizing the abundant gas resources in Akwa Ibom to power the industrial park in Ikot Abasi, ensuring an uninterrupted gas supply to maintain continuous operations.
Hon. Ekpo expressed his gratitude to the investors for their confidence in Nigeria and commended the management of OGFZA for their support. He pledged the Ministry’s full backing to ensure the project’s success, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s gas policies aimed at enhancing revenue, job creation, electricity supply, clean cooking solutions, and environmental sustainability.
Jada also acknowledged Hon. Ekpo’s efforts in advancing the Nigerian gas sector and reaffirmed OGFZA’s commitment to supporting responsible investors in the oil and gas free zones. He assured the continued support of President Tinubu and the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, in fostering a conducive environment for business growth in Nigeria.
