The National Coordinator of the Nigeria AfCFTA Coordination Office, Mr. Olusegun Awolowo, recently hosted a high-level delegation from the Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC) at the Coordination Office in Abuja. The delegation was led by the Executive Director/CEO of NEPC, Mrs. Nonye Ayeni, and the meeting centered on enhancing collaborative efforts to maximize Nigeria’s trade potential under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Key discussions during the meeting focused on expanding Nigeria’s export base, developing capacity-building programs for exporters, and strategically positioning the country to leverage AfCFTA’s vast trade opportunities. Both organizations aim to work closely to ensure that Nigerian businesses and entrepreneurs benefit from AfCFTA’s provisions, which are designed to facilitate seamless trade across African borders.
Mr. Awolowo highlighted the critical role of collaboration in boosting Nigeria’s non-oil exports and achieving sustainable economic growth. “This partnership with NEPC is pivotal as we seek to not only broaden Nigeria’s export portfolio but also empower Nigerian exporters to thrive in the AfCFTA framework,” he noted.
Mrs. Ayeni emphasized the importance of building the capacity of Nigerian exporters to meet the challenges and opportunities presented by AfCFTA. “Our focus is to equip Nigerian businesses with the tools and knowledge to compete effectively in the African market,” she said.
The strengthened collaboration between the AfCFTA Coordination Office and NEPC underscores a unified commitment to fostering economic growth and positioning Nigeria as a leading exporter in Africa, while reducing the country’s dependency on oil revenues.
