The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has reaffirmed its commitment to phase out unapproved taxi and bus parks in the heart of Abuja by next year, aligning with the scheduled opening of newly constructed, state-of-the-art bus terminals.
FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, made this announcement during an inspection tour of ongoing construction at the Kugbo and Mabushi bus terminals. Highlighting the significance of providing alternative transport hubs for commuters, the minister emphasized the importance of streamlining transportation before enforcing the crackdown on illegal parks.
Barr. Wike expressed satisfaction with the progress, noting that the contractors are optimistic about completing the projects ahead of schedule. Initially set for completion in October 2025, the projects are moving at a pace that suggests early delivery within the 15-month timeline.
Once operational, the new bus terminals will centralize transportation activities, and the minister affirmed that the existing unapproved parks will be phased out. Taxis and buses will no longer be permitted to pick up passengers randomly on the streets, and all transport services will be directed to the designated terminals, ensuring a more organized and efficient transport system in the city.
This development is expected to enhance traffic management, reduce congestion, and improve the overall commuting experience in the Federal Capital Territory.
