The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) celebrated a significant milestone today by officially handing over an electric vehicle, the “WULING 2023,” donated by CIG Motors Nigeria, to Mr. Enoch Tobilola Oluwagbemi, the esteemed winner of the CNG Hybrid Design Competition. The presentation took place at the NADDC headquarters in Abuja, underscoring the Council’s commitment to fostering innovation in the Nigerian automotive industry.
During the ceremony, NADDC Director General Mr. Joseph Osanipin emphasized the necessity of designing vehicles that cater specifically to Nigerian roads and environmental conditions. He pointed out that many existing vehicle models do not adequately address the unique challenges faced by local drivers and conditions.
Out of 18 submissions to the competition, Mr. Oluwagbemi’s innovative designs distinguished themselves, demonstrating the potential of Nigerian youth to contribute to the automotive sector. “This initiative aims to inspire creativity and innovation among our youth, encouraging them to develop skills that align with the evolving automotive industry,” Mr. Osanipin stated. He further reiterated the need for Nigerians to take an active role in shaping the future of the automotive sector, particularly in the design and production of automotive components.
The event also saw the participation of the Council’s management staff, highlighting NADDC’s dedication to nurturing local talent in automotive design and development. This handover marks a crucial step towards empowering young Nigerians and advancing the nation’s automotive industry.
