Managing Director/ Chief Executive, Bank of Industry, Dr. Olasupo Olusi

Dr. Olasupo Olusi, the recently appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Bank of Industry, has no familial ties to Chief Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi, the leader of the Lagos All Progressives Congress, as some have speculated. Contrary to assumptions, Dr. Olusi hails from the Akoko region of Ondo State, not Lagos, where Chief Tajudeen Olusi is associated with the governing party.

For many who do not know, beyond Olasupo’s educational and professional qualifications which makes him well able to head BoI, he is the son of Professor S. O. Olusi, a former dean, college of health sciences, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State. His mother, Professor Janet Omolara Olusi, is also an academician. She equally retired from OAU as a professor of economics.

Dr. Olusi’s appointment followed the voluntary resignation of the former BOI MD & CEO, Mr. Olukayode Pitan. With over two decades of experience as a World Bank economist and development finance expert, Dr. Olusi previously served as the Economic Adviser to the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance from 2011 to 2015.

His academic background includes an alumnus status at Hull University, United Kingdom, and he holds both a Master’s degree in International Money, Finance, and Investment, as well as a Doctorate in Finance & Economics from Durham University, United Kingdom, earned in 2005.

As the MD of BoI, Tinubu has tasked him with the job of ensuring that Nigerians, who are operating all sizes of enterprises across the sectors are given fair and equitable access to much-needed support to bolster employment generation and wealth creation amongst income groups in the country with special regard for lower-and-middle-income enterprise operators.
