The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.), through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm, NNPC Foundation, has extended a helping hand to flood victims in Borno State by donating essential relief items. This gesture follows the devastating floods that displaced many communities in the region.
During a condolence visit to the Borno State Government on Tuesday, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC, Mr. Mele Kyari, represented by the Executive Vice President of Business Services, Mr. Danladi Inuwa, expressed the company’s deep sympathy for the affected people. He conveyed NNPC’s commitment to supporting the state’s recovery efforts and assisting those who have been hardest hit by the disaster.
“As a company, we are deeply saddened by the recent floods that have impacted the lives of so many in Borno State. Our thoughts and prayers are with the affected communities, and we are here to offer support during this challenging time,” Inuwa said, speaking on behalf of Kyari.
The relief materials donated by NNPC Foundation included food supplies, toiletries, beddings, and other essential household items aimed at alleviating the immediate needs of the flood victims. These items were distributed to displaced families, providing some comfort as they begin the long process of rebuilding their lives.
Strengthening Corporate Social Responsibility
This donation is part of NNPC’s broader Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at giving back to communities across Nigeria. The NNPC Foundation has been actively involved in various humanitarian efforts, particularly in times of crisis, offering support to vulnerable populations affected by natural disasters.

The Borno State Government, represented by Deputy Governor Umar Usman Kadafur, expressed gratitude to NNPC for the timely intervention and support. “This donation comes at a critical time for us, and it will go a long way in helping the affected families. We thank NNPC for standing by us and for their continued commitment to supporting the people of Borno State,” Kadafur said.
The floods, which affected several local government areas in Borno, have left thousands of people displaced, with homes, farmlands, and businesses submerged under water. The state government, alongside various organizations, has been working to provide shelter, medical assistance, and food to those in need.
Commitment to Long-Term Support
In addition to the immediate relief efforts, NNPC indicated its willingness to partner with the Borno State Government in developing long-term strategies to mitigate the impact of future floods and other natural disasters. The company highlighted the importance of infrastructure development, disaster preparedness, and sustainable recovery efforts.
“As part of our CSR mission, we are looking at ways to collaborate with the state government to strengthen infrastructure and improve disaster management systems in the region,” Inuwa concluded.
