The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) has called on the Ondo State Government to support its efforts in boosting local production of vehicle component parts and advancing the conversion of petrol-powered vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). This appeal was made during a courtesy visit by the Director General of NADDC, Mr. Joseph Oluwemimo Osanipin along with top management staff, to the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Chief Dr. Olayide Owolabi Adelami.
During the meeting, the Director General outlined the Council’s mandates and its ongoing projects in Ondo State, stressing the importance of increasing local manufacturing capacity for vehicle parts. He noted that achieving this goal would require strong government backing to ensure the sustainability and growth of the automotive sector.
The DG also highlighted the Council’s recent success in Ekiti State, where NADDC conducted a training program on converting petrol (PMS) and diesel (AGO) powered vehicles to CNG-powered systems. He urged the Ondo State Government to collaborate with NADDC in offering similar training programs to technicians and youth in the state, which would help bolster technical skills and employment opportunities in the region.
In his response, Deputy Governor Chief Dr. Olayide Owolabi Adelami warmly received the NADDC delegation and expressed his gratitude for their visit. He commended their initiatives and assured them of his commitment to passing the Council’s requests to the Executive Governor. He further pledged government support for the proposed CNG vehicle conversion training, recognizing its potential to foster environmental sustainability and economic growth.
The NADDC team, including its Director General and senior management staff, is currently in Akure, Ondo State, for their 2024 Management Retreat.
