The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced the discontinuation of in-person data modification services at its National Identification Number (NIN) enrolment centres, directing citizens to its newly launched online self-service modification portal. This move, aimed at reducing long wait times and eliminating queues at enrolment centres, marks a significant shift in the commission’s service delivery approach.
In a video posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, the NIMC revealed that the new online platform will offer greater convenience to users, allowing citizens to modify their data from the comfort of their homes or offices. “As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the national identity management system, NIMC has introduced a significant policy change across all enrollment offices nationwide,” the statement read.
The NIMC believes this policy change will streamline its operations and improve service efficiency, reducing the stress associated with in-person data modifications.
In a related development, the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of NIMC, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, has taken additional steps to improve staff welfare amidst rising economic challenges. She recently approved the provision of a staff bus and subsidised bags of rice to help employees cope with food inflation.
Her announcement was met with overwhelming applause from staff members during a gathering. In a show of appreciation, the staff spontaneously organized a surprise party for Coker-Odusote, celebrating her leadership and thoughtfulness. Heartfelt speeches were delivered, highlighting her commitment to the well-being of the workforce and the positive impact she has made within just one year of her tenure.
